Sony accused of overcharging Playstation customers

The £5 billion Playstation lawsuit alleges that Sony has breached competition law by abusing its market power, forcing up prices for consumers. A group claim has been submitted to the courts on behalf of the 8.9 million UK consumers that have been ripped off. Are you one of them?

  • You (or a member of your family) own a PS4 or a PS5 or you owned a PS4 /5 anytime from 19 August 2016 and 19 August 2022
  • You spent money buying games or in-app purchases

The claim against Sony

This case is being spearheaded by consumer rights expert Alex Neill who has approval from the Court to bring this claim. Alex Neill is advised by law firm Milberg London LLP and the action is funded by Woodsford. What’s happening with this claim?

The Competition Appeal Tribunal gave the go-ahead in November 2023 for the claim to go to full trial with Neill representing all the affected consumers. A final appeal from Sony was dismissed in April 2024. Neill originally filed her claim to commence collective proceedings against Sony PlayStation in August 2022. The claim was reviewed by the Tribunal at the certification hearing in June 2023.
